Media Monday

Last week on Thursday, September 8, one of the most looked forward to fashion nights had arrived – Fashion’s Night Out! Where retailers in the hottest, trendiest areas are open after hours, throw an event/party, and offer great discounts on latest styles. This is the time of year where fashionistas enjoy the endless champagne, tons of freebies, and has the chance to win prizes. Where else to find the most happening trends in the 2 most happening cities in the US during this day but in LA and NY! We personally got to experience some of the hottest boutiques on Robertson Ave., Los Angeles and the festivities they were hosting. From the latest bikini styles from Beach Bunny, the trendiest style of black shiny jeans at Kitson, and super cute hunter style fall boots at Nanette Lepore, we saw it all (not to mention LOVED it all)! Let’s dish out the scoop on what was happening in LA and NY last Thursday.

As one would assume, New York has the most cohesive FNO every year. What way to really emphasize this than Justin Bieber appearing at the Dolce & Gabbana store in Manhattan and then had a surprise performance! Both this year and last year, New York retailers stepped it up for their customers by making them leave feeling guilt-free – shopping for a good cause. Last year alone, New York City raised over $800,000 in charity. This year, fashionistas splurged on smaller yet still fabulous items – Chanel lipstick, card cases at Tory Burch – where they can feel great without overspending. Many celebrities as well as designers roamed the streets of NY splurging themselves. Diane Von Furstenberg was at her store in the Meatpacking location selling her own bags to customers, Sarah Jessica Parker was autographing Manolo Blahnik heels, and Macy’s had blow out sales (oh wait….they have a sale every other day it seems…nevermind!). We are looking forward to seeing what happens next year during FNO while excitement and phenomenal fashion never ceases to exist in the city that never sleeps. (“The Daily Beast”)

With it’s third year in a row of participating, Los Angeles really hit it off this year during FNO. From food trucks, to fashion shows, to circus performances, retailer participation was almost at 100% this year (“LA Times”).  The main attractions were at the Beverly Center, Rodeo Drive, and Robertson Blvd. On Robertson Blvd. (where the famous Kitson and Christian Loubitan stores are located), a live band performance by the Cults was featured outside of the Philip Lim store, free t-shirts by Ron Herman were given out, DJs were performing live in many stores, and Christian Loubitan served rice crispie treats with red “L”s on top!! Just when you thought that was exciting enough…..The Beverly Center Mall had celebrity sightings such as Nicole Richie and American Idol’s Randy Jackson and a full on runway show featuring the latest trends from Macy’s and other retailers. To save the best for last, the ever famous Rodeo Drive went out with a bang this year when they had circus performances along with an enormous ferris wheel brought in to set the mood. Lanvin also featured a dance-off competition and Gucci featured a Fiat decked out by the brand! Who do you think had the craziest FNO this year out of LA or NY? (“LA Times”, “LA Weekly”)
