Media Monday: Nail Art Craze

Painting your nails when you were younger was always a creative process. You could get away with bright colors, adhesive jewels, and painting every nail a different color. Over the past year, nail art has reemerged in a whole new light.

For award shows and the catwalk, nails had more of an important role in the styling of the outfit versus a plain shade to blend with the garment. E! News even had their own “Mani Cam” during each of the award shows so viewers could get a close up view of the celebrity’s nails.

Oscars: Quvenzhane’ Wallis added some sparkle with Chanel. This is a great example of having a simple nail with a little extra glam added.

Grammy’s: Jennifer Lopez chose a neutral color with gold studs.

Golden Globes: One of the most creative designs had to be on Zooey Deschanel’s fingers. The mini cameras and film rolls were fitting for the evening.

Fashionista compiled their top nail art picks in a slideshow from the Spring 2013 runways. We’ve chosen a couple of the most interesting ones to feature.

Blood drop nails were at the Prabal Gurung show and done with Sally Hansen. These definitely aren’t a day-to-day look but make a statement.

To still get the same effect, we suggest opting for paint drops! This is a more colorful, fun look to try out.

Rachel Antonoff used CND for her model’s nails and chose to have the overhead view of Versailles painted on each pointed nail. Not only did she use the painting but also the shape of the nail.

Three layers of painted nails were featured at Binetti’s show. He used CND for the oyster shell looking nails, complete with a pearl in each section.

We feel nail art will continue to grow throughout the year with new tricks and creative ideas. What’s the most creative design you’ve done on your nails?
