Media Monday: SAG Awards

The 19th annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) awards were held Sunday, January 27. The night honored actors in both film and television. With an award show comes red carpet worthy gowns. Le Chic took note of the trends that appeared at last night’s event.

Le Chic names Naya Rivera from Glee best dressed. The competition was tight but Naya hit all the right notes. Her Donna Karan Atelier dress was stunning. The sheer corset top fit her body perfectly and followed the black sheer dress trend we kept seeing on the red carpet.

The SAG awards were full of many beautiful gowns so we had to name Elisabeth Moss as worst dressed in her short Dolce & Gabbana dress. She looked like she was ready for New Years instead of nominated for Best TV Drama for Mad Men. When wearing $1 million of jewelry, your dress should match.

Two colors stood out for this award show: black and midnight blue. As shown above black was a popular choice among actresses. Other ladies that wore the black dress trend were Anne Hathaway, Michelle Dockery, and Tina Fey.

Midnight blue was also a favorite color on leading ladies. This blue was the perfect winter color that popped against the red carpet and fair colored skin.

Midnight Blue Beauties: Amanda Seyfried in Zac Posen, Nicole Kidman in Vivienne Westwood Couture, Jennifer Lawrence in Christian Dior Haute Couture

Another common theme across the stars was their hair and makeup. Actress after actress wore side-swept hair with loose curls. Many of them also opted for a more natural look when it came to makeup with a possible red lip.

Side Swept

Side-Swept Ladies: Naomi Watts in Marchesa, Jessica Chastain in Alexander McQueen, Julianne Moore in Chanel Couture

Le Chic also wanted to recognize the ladies who broke the mold and successfully stood out in a beautiful way. These women looked amazing in their brightly colored gowns that were each very different from one another.

Bold Color

Bold Women: Giuliana Rancic in Max Azria, Lea Michele in Valentino, Sally Field in J. Mendel

An unfashionable matter that seemed to be common among the actors: illness. From Jennifer Lawrence who had walking pneumonia to Marion Cotillard and Isabelle Allen who both felt under the weather. Actors like Carl Reiner, Mary Tyler Moore, and even Tommy Lee Jones couldn’t even make it to the awards ceremony due to the flu. Jones missed accepting his award for Outstanding Male Actor in a Supporting Role for his work in “Lincoln.” The show must go on though and we are reminded actors are humans who get sick too.

The dresses from last night reflect current trends for this season: black clothing with a sheer cut-out element, red lips, side-swept hair, and pops of color! This season is all about stepping it up a notch and being a little more daring. Don’t forget to accessorize appropriately! What was your favorite dress from the SAG awards?
