This season, Nathalie Kraynina’s S/S 2013 collection is all about reinventing BLACK. Forever in vogue and very New York, black looks great on everyone. The new line consists of interchangeable separates that can be worn together or can be added to any of your existing pieces. Think of your “little black dress” taken to a whole collection. Nathalie imagined an effortless summer line that plays with textures and silhouettes. She used easy fabrics like stretch denim and cotton and dress them up with leather, silk brocades, and embroidered some pieces with stones and jewels. Even though the whole collection is all black, it has touches of silver, blues and greens. The new S/S 2013 collection has an air of elegance and sophistication yet exhumes playfulness and life.
Before the pre-sale we got an exclusive interview with Nathalie!
What was your inspiration for the collection?
This season my S/S 2013 collection is all about reinventing BLACK. The new line consists of interchangeable separates that can be worn together or can be added to any of your existing pieces. Think of your “little black dress” taken to a whole collection. I wanted to make an effortless summer line that plays with textures and silhouettes. I used easy fabrics like stretch denim and cotton and dress them up with leather, silk brocades, and embroidered some pieces with stones and jewels. Even though the whole collection is all black it has touches of silver, blues and greens.
Was there a reason you mainly used black for a spring/ summer collection?
Black sort of became one of my favorites to work with and now I took it to the whole collection. I love wearing black; it’s very sliming and can go from day to night. It is appropriate for any occasion and it’s very New York. It’s always in vogue. I am not saying that women should wear black from head to toe- but I Love to!
What can we expect from your next collection?
I am very excited to start working on my next collection because it’s getting cold outside and it is going to be for A/W 2013. I want to make super warm and comfortable pieces that are still tailored and have clean and strong silhouette. I am thinking reds and big plaids inspired by South America tribal color schemes. But I really don’t know yet. I don’t sketch in advance; usually I drape everything so things just happen.
How would you describe the women wearing your collection? (What type of life they live ex: young girl in the city… young working mom…)
I like to make pieces that are truly inspired by women themselves and that are very wearable. I hope they feel beautiful and confident. I strive to create pieces that are feminine and elegant and stay in women’s closets for decades to come. I want my clothes to say: Timeless elegance. My clothes are always designed with the same of girl/woman in mind. She is a professional; I always try to make clothes so they can be worn to work. But she also likes to go out and have fun. I like to portray a woman that is strong, sophisticate and elegant. She is someone who wants to celebrate her inner self and show her individuality through her clothes. I always think of the real women when I make my clothes and how they will fit in their regular life. This collection is all about a take on silhouettes and the contrast between textures. Playing with super easy fabrics like cotton and linen but creating pieces that stand out and are memorable.
What celebrity would you love to see in Nathalie Kraynina Spring/Summer 2013?
Oh there is so many, from Hollywood I love Charlize Theronand and Kristen Stewart. I would also love to dress someone like Kelly Rippa for example.
